Raku – no smoke without fire!

More info and bookings here

Discover the art of Raku, an ancient Japanese technique whereby searing glazed pots are placed directly into combustible materials. The resulting patterns are exciting and immediate.

With the luxury of having ten burnished pots made especially for you by your tutor Mick Morgan, your two days will focus purely on the processes of Raku itself.

Mick will share his knowledge on a broad spectrum of techniques including naked Raku, matt lustre, decoration processes, reduction firing and techniques to combine coloured and underglazes. You will be given a technical sheet with recipes and advice.

On the first day you will experiment with firing glazes on test tiles and talk about the construction of the kiln. On the second day, your newly acquired knowledge will be applied to decorating and firing your pots in multiple firings. There may also be opportunity to buy one of the kilns to take home with you.
